Stadnina Dexters is a small property located between Bungendore and Braidwood NSW specialising in the sustainable breeding and husbandry of Dexter cattle. The property is a part of the This Sustainable House project, which is a sub-project of Green Phoenix Permaculture.
Dexter cattle are the only naturally dwarf breed of cattle, and are the smallest of the British cattle breeds. They are noted for their wonderfully friendly temperment, their general hardiness as well as their diminutive size. One of the key advantages of Dexter cattle over other breeds is that Dexter's are truly a 'dual-purpose' breed, meaning that they are useful for both meat and milk. For more information on Dexter cattle go to the weblinks page.
As a part of the TSH project, Stadnina Dexters currently has a small herd of cattle for meat production, There are plans to later add a dairy to the project producing milk for both the home, and semi-commercial (v.small scale) cheese-making.
